Rumor: Sony exploring a solo film based on Jamie Foxx’s Electro

According to one of the internet’s most reliable scoopers, Jamie Foxx may be getting his own Electro solo film.

On Monday, Charles Murphy of Murphy’s Multiverse revealed an interesting rumor. According to one of his sources, positive fan reaction to Jamie Foxx’s portrayal of Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home has Sony execs looking to develop a solo film for the character.

Let’s kick things off with a statement about the sourcing of this story. While we normally try to stick with the major trades when it comes to unconfirmed reports, Charles Murphy has proven to be impeccably reliable when it comes to Marvel Entertainment scoops–especially after nearly all his reports about Spider-Man: No Way Home were proven to be correct.

*Side Note: If you enjoy vicarious schadenfreude, scroll back a couple days through Murphy’s Twitter feed and watch him absolutely wreck people who called him an idiot this year for making claims that turned out to be 100% true.

Electro

As for an Electro solo film, that absolutely tracks with Sony’s efforts to develop their own live action Spider-Verse. In addition to the upcoming Morbius film, they’re also working a solo Kraven the Hunter movie starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson. If two B-list Spidey characters like those can get feature projects, then an Electro movie starring a marquee name like Jamie Foxx isn’t a stretch at all.

And yes, Morbius and and Kraven are unquestionably B-list. Don’t @ me.

It’s worth noting Murphy’s report also states that nothing has been greenlit just yet. There is apparently a clause in Jamie Foxx’s contract that would obligate him to a solo project based on No Way Home‘s box office numbers, that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen–or that Sony will ultimately decide to make the film.

After watching Foxx steal the show in No Way Home, however, it would be great to see what he could do with an Electro-focused script.
