HBO renews ‘The Righteous Gemstones’ for third season

Looks like we’re in for another morbidly hilarious season watching the Gemstone family implode.

In a press release on Tuesday, HBO announced that it has renewed its hit comedy The Righteous Gemstones for a third season. Amy Gravitt, HBO’s Executive Vice President of Programming, praised the news, stating:

“After a season of literal fire and brimstone, blood, sand, and rollerblading, who wouldn’t come back for more? The Gemstone family makes us laugh like nobody else.”

If you aren’t currently watching The Righteous Gemstones, then Gravitt’s statement likely reads hyperbolic corporate praise. If you have been watching, however, then you know she ain’t kidding.

The first season was good, but this one has somehow managed to elevate the drama and comedy in a way that doesn’t even seem possible. One minute you’re horrified at a grisly murder scene, the next you’re laughing hysterically as a group of characters can’t get the doors on their Tesla to close so they can get away.

Considering how things left off in Episode 4, there’s no telling how crazy things by the time we reach the season finale on February 27. Now we can rest assured that whatever implosion occurs by that date will continue to be explored in another batch of episodes.
