Joe Hill’s novel ‘The Fireman’ to be adapted for television

A series based on Joe Hill’s hit 2016 novel will be produced by Walden Media.

On Thursday, Aaron Couch of the Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that Joe Hill’s hit 2016 novel The Fireman is being adapted into a television series. No word yet on where it will land, but Couch’s report states that the show is being produced by Walden Media — the same folks behind Tom Hanks’ Finch.

Walden Entertainment CEO Frank Smith expressed his excitement about the project in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, declaring:

“We’re so excited to be working with celebrated author Joe Hill on The Fireman. I can’t imagine a timelier book to be developing into a series. The Fireman showcases a theme that Walden holds very dear — the idea of celebrating ordinary people who rise in extraordinary circumstances.”

The novel takes place in a world where people have started to become infected by a plague called Dragonscale, which causes its victims’ skin to break out in black and gold markings before they eventually burst into flames.

When a pregnant woman is forced to go on the run after contracting the disease, she meets a strange man dressed in fireman gear who helps her seek a way that she and her unborn child can survive. The source material is really good, so hopefully whoever picks up the television series does it justice like AMC did for Joe Hill’s NOS4A2.
