The biggest new video games coming out the week of 2/14/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day today by giving yourself or that special someone in your life a brand spankin’ new video game. We got some big releases this week, including what might be the biggest and best game of the year so far.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

The King of Fighters XV (2/17)

The first major fighting game of the year is The King of Fighters XV. The 15th iteration of the franchise will be the first to utilize the Unreal Engine 4 as well as GGPO rollback networking, which will hopefully create a smooth online experience in a genre that requires precise timing and input. It’ll launch with 13 teams of three fighters each, making for 39 playable fighters, and another 13 fighters are planned to be added via DLC.

Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires (2/15)

The ninth entry in the Dynasty Warriors franchise sees an expansion arrive this week. Empires brings strategy elements to the hack ‘n’ slash gameplay the series is known for. In addition to the 1 v. 1000 combat, players will work toward uniting China via alliances and siege battles. Go from an “unaffiliated officer” to a ruler leading an army of several allied forces. Empires will be the first Dynasty Warriors content released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Horizon Forbidden West (2/18)

The wait is nearly over — soon PlayStation owners will be able to venture with Aloy to the Forbidden West as she searches for answers to what caused the Faro Plague. The map of Horizon Forbidden West will be larger than the first game’s and will add another dimension to exploration as Aloy will be able to dive underwater and discover what the depths hold. The melee combat and climbing mechanics are revamped and improved for the sequel and the PS5’s DualSense will provide its signature haptic feedback. Sony will be offering free upgrades from the PS4 version to the PlayStation 5 version of the game, meaning everyone should get a PS4 copy as it retails for $59.99, ten dollars cheaper than a PS5 copy.
