Cesaro has “quietly exited” WWE after the two sides failed to come to terms on a new deal, according to PWInsider. Cesaro last wrestled for WWE on the 2/11 episode of SmackDown, where he lost to Happy Corbin.
Cesaro had been with WWE since 2011, and joined the main roster less than a year later after a brief stint in FCW. He is a former United States Champion, but found most of his WWE success in the tag team division, capturing tag team gold seven times with Sheamus five times as The Bar, and Tyson Kidd and Shinsuke Nakamura once each. He also won the first-ever Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy at WrestleMania XXX.
Despite that on-paper success, Cesaro is perhaps the poster child for wasted potential in WWE. He was consistently popular with fans despite start-stop booking and a lack of attention, and given the right push, could have been a main event staple in the company.
Now, since his deal simply expired rather than quitting or being released, the Swiss Cyborg is free to wrestle anywhere he wishes immediately. Hopefully we’ll see him pop up somewhere sooner rather than later.
