Dark Horse acquired by video game company Embracer Group AB

Dark Horse is officially owned by Swedish company Embracer Group AB.

Dark Horse Comics is now officially owned by Embracer Group AB, a Swedish gaming company based in Karlstad. The acquisition was first announced back on December 21st, but now it’s official.

Dark Horse Comics released an official statement on their website with all conditions met. The acquisition should be a mutually good fit, with Embracer gaining over 300 intellectual properties for transmedia creation. Dark Horse also has retail and collectible product divisions further strengthening the company. Meanwhile, Dark Horse gains a bit of cushion in a comics industry that has highs and lows.

Dark Horse founder and CEO Mike Richardson will continue to lead the company, keeping existing management in place. Richardson said, “This is an exciting new step for our company and promises a great future for our employees, the creators we work with, and our many business partners.”
