Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

Lots of great new figures, but at price points that make them much easier to skip.

On Wednesday, Hasbro celebrated May the Fourth (the officially unofficial Star Wars Day) with a livestream featuring a slate of new reveals for the Black Series and Vintage Collection toylines.

Much like the Marvel Legends team’s recent event, a ton of great products were shown that will also carry a not-so-great higher price point. On the positive side of things, Hasbro doesn’t appear to be going with the plastic-free packaging for either line (at least for the time being).

We’ll start with the 3.75″ scale Vintage Collection reveals first.

332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper

As glad as I am to finally have this figure in the Vintage Collection, I can’t be the only one who hates the legs on this clone trooper sculpt. It’s not enough to keep me from buying multiples (and appreciating the great paintwork/design), but still disappointing — especially with figure prices rising astronomically.

Guess other figures will have to be sacrificed from the toy budget.

Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper will retail for $14.99. It will be available for preorder from most major retailers on Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM EDT with an expected arrival in Spring of 2023 (ugh).

Mandalorian Super Commando

That’s more like it. In addition to the great sculpt, the paint looks fantastic — especially the helmet detailing.

Mandalorian Super Commando will retail for $14.99. It will be available for preorder from most major retailers on Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM EDT with an expected arrival in Winter 2022.

Anakin Skywalker (Padawan)

The facial portrait and soft goods on this figure are superb. I don’t need one for my collection, but it looks so good that I almost considered adding it to my shopping list. Perhaps I would’ve if Hasbro’s price points were outpacing the rate of inflation by such a wide margin.

But I digress…

Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper will retail for $14.99. It will be available from most major retailers for preorder on Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM EDT with an expected arrival in Winter 2022.

Heavy Assault Stormtrooper

I’m one of those weird people who collect clone battalions, but don’t care much for stormtroopers. That said, this one is gorgeous. You also gotta love those accessories.

Unfortunately, the figure is part of the Gaming Greats subline (the character appeared in Jedi: Fallen Order). That means it’ll retail for an extra two dollars ($16.99) and only be available through fan channel (i.e. toy specialty) sites, which normally tack another dollar or two.

If you still want one, then the Heavy Assault Stormtrooper will be available Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM for preorder. It’s expected to arrive in stores this fall.

Stormtrooper Commander

Same story with this figure, which is based on one of the coolest looking Imperial designs from The Force Unleashed franchise. Yet despite how much I love the blue paint, the $16.99+ price tag makes it an easy pass.

If you want one, the Stormtrooper Commander will be available for preorder on Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM from fan channel retailers. It’s expected to arrive in stores this fall.

Phase I Clone Trooper 4-Pack

Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

I’m more of a Phase II clone trooper armor fan, but this is still a really cool set. It also retails for the downright reasonable price of $44.99.

The set will be sold exclusively through Hasbro Pulse. It will be available for preorder on Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM with an expected arrival in Winter 2022.

Now let’s take a look at the Black Series, which had a few good reveals along with one fantastic role-play product.

Figrin D’an

Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

$24.99 is too expensive for a regular Black Series figure, but at least this one comes with three different instrument accessories. It also looks incredible.

Figrin D’an will be available for preorder on Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM EDT with an expected arrival in Spring of 2023. The figure isn’t an exclusive, so it should be easy to find.

Nalan Cheel

Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

Yes, the figure looks great. Yes, the accessories are wonderful. But $38.99 is still way too expensive.

If you can stomach that price, however, then Nalan Cheel will be available for preorder on Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM EDT with an expected arrival this fall. It will be available from most major retailers.

Princess Leia (Ewok Village)

Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

As beautiful as this figure is, Leia’s facial expression is what I’d want to see when she’s facing off against an enemy, not her Ewok Village look. I’m also not sure how I feel about the dress being plastic without any soft goods.

Ewok Village Princess Leia will retail for $24.99. The figure will be available for preorder on Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM EDT from most major retailers with an expected arrival in Spring 2023.

New Republic Security Droid

Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

You may recognize this droid from its appearance in one episode of The Mandalorian. If not, then you aren’t missing anything. The same can be said about this figure missing from your collection.

The New Republic Security Droid will retail for $24.99. The figure will be available for preorder on Thursday, May 5 at 1:00 PM EDT from most major retailers with an expected arrival in Spring 2023.

Clone Trooper (187th Battalion)

Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals Star Wars: May the Fourth Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

Aren’t these guys supposed to be purple? Not only is that a way better color scheme than “1970s living room orange,” but it goes along with the lightsaber color of their Jedi General, Mace Windu.

Maybe that’s why the figure retails for two dollars less ($22.99). There isn’t any preorder information available yet, but it will be sold exclusively through Walgreens this fall.

UPDATE: Apparently, 187th’s armor color was canonically changed for reasons that aren’t entirely clear. Whatever the case, purple is still the color people generally associate with Mace Windu’s clone trooper unit. It also looks infinitely better than burnt orange.
