The Pokémon Company shared a new trailer today for the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The ninth generation of Pokémon games is slated for release this November, just in time for the holiday season.
The new trailer shows off new Pokémon as well as some familiar faces. One of the new additions to the Pokédex is a pig-like pocket monster named Lechonk, who has already become the internet’s favorite. Professors Sada and Turo make their debuts, as well as the legendaries for the games — Koraidon (Scarlet) and Miraodon (Violet).
We’ve also learned some details about the games’ world and gameplay. While we previously knew Scarlet and Violet would feature an open world, the games’ website gives a bit more insight, saying the games will feature “a world that you’re free to explore at your leisure and not in an order dictated by the story.” This contrasts the progression of previous Pokémon games where your trainer would advance along on a set path.
In equally interesting and exciting news, four-player co-op was revealed for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The classic trading with and battling against friends will return (thankfully no Game Link Cable needed!), but you’ll also be able to “explore the various locations of the region in these games with other players.” Further details on how co-op will work aren’t offered, but we’ll certainly learn more closer to release about how we can “discover new Pokémon and explore unfamiliar areas with [our] friends and family, opening the door to an adventure more precious and fun than ever!”
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will release November 18, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch. Digital preorders are available now and you can check out the new trailer below.
