The biggest new video games releasing the week of 6/20/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The summer of gaming is in full swing! The year started off fantastically, with major releases like Pokémon Legends: Arceus to Horizon Forbidden West to Elden Ring all releasing in early 2022, and that fantastic trend looks to continue through the summer months with bombastic Triple A games and indie darlings releasing left and right.

Let’s check out what games are hitting storefronts this week.

Fall Guys (6/21)

The “party royale” Fall Guys releases on PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch while also going free-to-play on June 21. Now that it’s available on all platforms, Fall Guys will also support cross-play between platforms. It’s a party game where players will compete in a series of minigames with players eliminated after each round until there’s one player left. Fall Guys ballooned in popularity when it released in August 2020 due in part to so many of us being quarantined and also being free during the month for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Sonic Origins (6/23)

Sonic Origins invites you to “celebrate the games that started it all.” It collects four of the first games in the Sonic series, originally released for the Sega Genesis and Sega CD: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. The collection adds new animated cutscenes for the story modes, the ability to play as Tails and Knuckles in any game (except for Knuckles in Sonic CD), a boss rush mode, and an “anniversary mode” that adds widescreen support, gives Sonic the drop dash power from Sonic Mania, and removes lives.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (6/24)

Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes is the second collaboration between the Fire Emblem franchise and Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors gameplay, the first being 2017’s Fire Emblem Warriors. The hack and slash game will pit the player against hundreds of enemies at a time while also giving them the ability to give tactical commands to allies. Three Hopes will tell a story set in the world of 2019’s Fire Emblem: Three Houses. A demo is currently available to play, giving players the chance to experience the game up to its fourth chapter for free.

Also check out: Capcom Fighting Collection, the Nintendo 64’s Pokemon Snap on Switch, and the Shadowrun Trilogy.
