On Monday, Justin Kroll of Deadline exclusively revealed that Emma Roberts has been cast in Sony’s upcoming Madame Web film. She joins Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Isabela Merced (Sicario: Day of the Soldado), Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), and Tahar Rahim (The Looming Tower) with Dakota Johnson in the title role.
Casting yet another acclaimed actress like Roberts for this film is a pretty big get for Sony. It’s also something I’m personally excited about as one of the few people who loved Scream 4, which she was great in.

Now the question becomes what role Roberts will be playing. We already know that Dakota Johnson will be playing some version of Madame Web — most likely the one that lines up with Julia Carpenter in the Marvel Universe (who is much younger than the original). With all these other young stars being added into the mix, it’s looking more and more likely that Sony’s Madame Web film will be exploring a few corners of the Spider-Verse in live-action.
If that ends up being the case, my money is on Roberts portraying a version of Anna-May Parker. That’s admittedly wishful thinking on my part, but one can dream.
