Writer Christopher Cantwell revealed via Twitter that he’ll be penning a new Namor series titled Namor: The Sub-Mariner. Joining him is artist Pasqual Ferry, who Cantwell says is ” giving you a take on an unrecognizable future brimming with echoes and ghosts of yesterday that is breathtaking.” A release date has yet to be given, although Cantwell does reassure readers more info will be coming soon.
Cantwell revealed this upcoming Namor solo series is the first series he pitched to Marvel, but the Eisner-nominated Doctor Doom ended up being his first project. More on that in our interview with Cantwell here.
Possibly most exciting about the Namor series is how it’ll take place 100 years into the future where Namor rules the world. Cantwell details:
“…but in his twilight years he reflects on a mercurial life, how his friends were often also foes, and how so much of the world he knew—and railed against—has vanished.
A seasoned, wiser Namor now sets out on a mission of aid and mercy—to save remaining humans on the surface.”
Cantwell promises the supporting cast will surprise readers pulling from “deeper past chapters” in Marvel history.
Whether or not this series will coincide with Black Panther 2–which spoiler fans will note may feature Namor in the MCU for the first time–remains to be seen. That said, it would make sense for Marvel to release a new Namor solo series to capitalize on general audiences who may love what they see on the big screen.
