Forspoken receives new gameplay overview trailer

Forspoken is expected to release January 24, 2023.

Luminous Productions shared a 10-minute gameplay trailer today at Gamescom for their upcoming open world RPG Forspoken. The trailer spotlights a hub world, Cipal, and other areas of Athia, some corrupted, while also offering exciting insight into the game’s combat and traversal.

Frey’s magically enhanced parkour looks to be thrilling, and I’m especially interested in the magical gameplay. Over 100 spells will be available to Frey over the course of the game, and by honing your skills, “you’ll be able to enjoy robust combat, exciting and intuitive magic parkour, and various missions,” said Luminous Productions’ Raio Mitsuno to IGN.

While the graphical fidelity of Forspoken is certainly impressive, with its environments and spells looking stunning, the lifeless eyes of some of NPCs shown in the trailer give me shades of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Let’s hope they’re a little more animated come the game’s January launch.

Forspoken was originally set to release in May before getting pushed to October and now finally to January 2023 for PS5 and PC. It was originally one of my most anticipated games of 2022, but after problematic comments by the developers and a rather cringe-filled story trailer, that anticipation has died down a wee bit. Regardless, check out the latest trailer below.
