During Saturday’s D23 Marvel Studios reveals, a trailer was publicly released for an upcoming Halloween special entitled Werewolf by Night. You can be forgiven if this wasn’t on your radar before today, but it actually looks like a lot of fun.
As you can see, the special is purposefully shot to look like a classic black and white monster film. It stars Gael Garcia Bernal as the title character (a werewolf who can retain his human intellect while transformed) and Laura Donnelly, who appears to be portraying monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone. The special is directed by Michael Giacchino, who’s typically known for writing incredible movie scores.
The trailer also has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo from Man-Thing, which is all it took to make me add this to my watch list.
Werewolf by Night will be released October 7 exclusively on Disney+.
D23 also gave us a public release of the Secret Invasion trailer along with some beautiful concept art for the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. As if that weren’t cool enough, most of the Thunderbolts cast joined Kevin Fiege on stage.

There was lots of other cool stuff shown only to those in attendance. Luckily, the official Marvel’s official Twitter account was there to make us all feel a little more informed/jealous. Some of it (like Matt Shakman directing the Fantastic Four movie and Don Cheadle starring in Armor Wars) was already well-known, but it’s still nice to have official confirmation.

According to Marvel’s official panel recap, Ke Huy Quan (Everything, Everywhere, All at Once) will portray a yet-to-be-revealed character in Season 2. The season will also begin right where the last one left off with Agent Mobius not remembering who Loki is.

In Marvel’s accompanying recap, it’s revealed that both Carl Lumbly (Isaiah Bradley) and Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres) will reprise their roles from The Falcon and the Winter Solider.
That was expected.
What folks will be surprised to learn (or at least I was) is that Tim Blake Nelson will reprise his role from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk as Dr. Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader. In case you forgot, he was already turning into the giant-headed supervillain at the end of that movie.
Shira Haas will also join the cast to portray Sabra.

If I’m being honest, this series hadn’t been on my radar much since I don’t know a lot about the character. Three items from Marvel’s official panel recap have me exponentially more interested now:
- We are going to get to see Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorn) building her suits (one of the best things about the original Iron Man movies)
- The series will “explore the dynamics of tech versus magic.”
- Anthony Robbins will portray one of my all-time favorite villains, The Hood.
