During the Disney Branded Television extravaganza, we learned that the second season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder would begin in February of next year. At the show’s panel the next day, we would learn even more from the creatives and voice talent. In attendance were executive producers (EP) Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar, and stars EJ Johnson (who moderated), Paula Jai Parker, Cedric the Entertainer, Jo Marie Payton, Kyla Pratt, Keke Palmer, Alisa Reyes, Karen Malina White, and Soleil Moon Frye.
The EPs saw the first season of the series as an appetizer while the upcoming one would be the main course since they felt there was still unfinished business. Serious stuff is coming our way regarding race and politics within the black community. There will also be a special Juneteenth episode along with one where Penny has to live with Sugar Momma. They also recalled that the first iteration of the show was geared towards tweens while now, they don’t have to hold back and can lay everything in your face. Hence the “Louder and Prouder” part of the title.
The discussion for The Proud Family panel went into an interesting direction when the question about which Disney property the speakers would like to crossover with. Reyes wanted to partner with Encanto so LaCienega could speak with Bruno. Parker thought it would be nice if the characters crossed paths with Moon Girl, whose series will make its debut also in February 2023. Payton also had Marvel on her mind wanting the family to visit Wakanda.
In the same vein the topic of fantasy guest stars came up. The names of Rita Moreno and Frankie Beverly were tossed out with more current people such as Saweetie, Doja Cat, Lupita Nyong’o, and Idris Elba. The EPs top pick would be former First Lady Michelle Obama, and they are actively trying to make that happen.
The audience was also treated with a table reading from a scene in the first season. It was such a delight to see the performance live and have everyone getting into character. There was even one point where the entire cast got up and starting dancing.
To close out the panel, we received a sneak peek at the season two premiere entitled “Old Towne Road Part 2.” It brings more context to the scene where Oscar Proud goes bull riding in the trailer.
The second season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder begins in February 2023 on Disney+.
