THR had the scoop that the much-anticipated remake of Spawn is on track, and it has fresh blood involved. Specifically writing blood, as Scott Silver, Malcolm Spellman, and Matthew Mixom are penning a new script for the film. The news also confirms Jamie Foxx is still attached to star.
This is great news if you liked films like Joker and Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Silver write Joker–and will be writing the sequel Joker 2–while Spellman was a writer and executive producer on Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It’s also great news Foxx is still attached to star as Spawn, who was first announced as starring in the role back in 2018.
While McFarlane has said to be directing the film, he seems to be walking that back a bit as he said to THR: “If we’ve got an A-list actor, A-list producers, A-list writers, then do you want to shoot for A-list directors, A-list cinematographers? The answer is, ‘of course.’ Let’s keep the momentum going.”
Fans expecting a low-budget indie project may be excited to note McFarlane made it clear the budget may be getting a bit of a boost as they seek a new studio partner.
McFarlane has had fans excited for days, first teasing news would be coming out on Spawn yesterday, but then reversing that and saying today.
