The much-talked-about Joker film is getting a sequel–we already knew that–but THR is now reporting the film is getting an Oct. 4, 2024 release date. Fans will note the first film also premiered on October 4, 2019. That puts it right in the prime time month for Halloween and horror films, which honestly is a good idea considering the first film was one of the most shocking films I’ve ever seen.
We’ve known a sequel has been in the works since June, which will have a director and co-writer Todd Phillips, returning with Joaquin Phoenix. It’s not official, but Phillips’ Instagram post also revealed the title Joker: Folie à deux, and that Scott Silver is returning to co-write the script.
Folie à deux is a medical term for two or more individuals shared psychosis or shared delusional disorder. If you know anything about the comics, this all but confirms Harley Quinn is appearing in the film.
Those are the details we’re certain about. As far as rumors go, many are reporting Lady Gaga is being considered for the role of Harley Quinn. Revealed by Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter, Kit also made it known the film will be a musical. Considering Lady Gaga has the chops to pull that off, it seems like a no-brainer, plus Phillips has been known to defy expectations.
Are you excited for the sequel to Joker? It’ll be interesting to see it contend with horror movies in 2024.
