NYCC 2022: Marvel announces new books from IDW, Abrams ComicArts, and more!

Marvel continues preserving its past with new books from IDW, Folio Society, and Abrams ComicArts.

Collectors of classic Marvel comics will have plenty to look forward to in 2023. At NYCC’s MARVEL: Books of Future Past panel, VP and Creative Executive Ryan Penagos moderated a panel celebrating new editions of old Marvel work published by Abrams ComicArts, IDW, The Folio Society, and Penguin Classics.

IDW editor Scot Dunbier announced Kevin Nowlan’s Marvel Heroes Artist’s Edition coming April 2023, and Michael Golden’s Marvel Stories Artist’s Edition is set to arrive in July 2023. Dunbier said these books attempt to “give you the experience of looking over the artist’s shoulder drawing in the studio.”

Penguin Classics publisher Elda Rotor didn’t have any specific announcements but did say, “Penguins will always assemble,” hinting at an Avengers Penguin Classics edition. She wants to “connect the modern reader to the past” with the Penguin Classics books and emphatically said Penguins Classics “is here with Marvel to say these are American classics.”

The Folio Society was next with editor James Rose announcing Doctor Strange will join the Heroes series in spring 2023, followed by an Avengers volume in fall 2023. The Folio books are beautiful collector’s editions bringing together classic Marvel stories in deluxe hardcovers that include beautiful slipcases and replicas of classic comics.

Last but not least was Spider-Man: Panel by Panel from Abrams ComicArts in July 2023, collecting high-res scans of each panel found in Amazing Fantasy #15. Editor Charlie Kochman also announced Marvel Value Stamps for March 2023, which he described as “a book as a kid I wished existed.” No announcements for the next OGN in the Marvel Arts series from Abrams, but it should be revealed in early 2023.
