NYCC 2022: LeVar Burton pleased ‘Star Trek: Picard’ finally delivers justice for Geordi

Star Trek: Picard’s Geordi La Forge is a family man in season three.

LaVar Burton has always expressed how grateful he was for his role as Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation, but he has also often spoken out about his disappointment that La Forge was denied any substantial romantic relationship and presented always as a spaz around women due to the show’s white writers’ uncomfortability with depicting a black man’s sexuality.

When almost the entire original cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation reunited at New York Comic Con on Saturday for the Star Trek: Picard panel to discuss season three, which will reunite their characters, Burton proudly announced there would finally be justice for Geordi.

“I’m happy to report that when we meet him, Geordi is not only married; he has two daughters,” Burton told the crowd.

One of those daughters is even played by Burton’s real-life daughter, Mica Burton, who will portray Ensign Alandra La Forge. The older daughter, played by Ashley Chestnut, is named Sidney and will serve as the helmsman on board the USS Titan. Chestnut’s Ensign Sidney La Forge appears briefly in the newly released teaser trailer for Season 3:

Star Trek: Picard season three premieres February 16, 2023 on Paramount+.
