On Monday, Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter revealed that Daniel Kaluuya has been tapped to voice the character of Spider-Punk in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He joins an already impressive cast that includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Issa Rae, and Jason Schwartzman.
Kaluuya has become a household name in both arthouse and genre film circles over the last decade. While some of us will arrogantly point out we were fans after his 2011 Black Mirror episode (‘15 Million Merits‘), Kaluuya exploded onto the scene with breakout roles in 2017’s Get Out and 2018’s Black Panther.
He’s also won numerous acting awards, including an Oscar for his portrayal of Fred Hampton in 2021’s Judas and the Black Messiah.

As for Spider-Punk (aka Hobart Brown), comic fans will recognize him as a homeless teenager who led a music-fueled revolt on Earth-138 against President Osborne. If none of that made any sense to you, then just trust us when we say that the character is a very cool and welcome addition to the Spider-Verse film franchise.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to premiere June 2, 2023.
