Limitless with Chris Hemsworth is an upcoming docuseries that explores cutting edge science related to combating the effects of aging and unlocking the full potential of the human body. What better person to engage in these exercises than a man who has the physique of a Norse god?
Each episode follows a basic formula where the show’s lead is given a particular challenge which he must train for. We see the human side of Hemsworth as he is taken out of his comfort zone and to the extremes to accomplish the task at hand. The cinematography can capture the grand scale of his trials.
It shows a sense of mortality that even he struggles from time to time, but he is a very willing and game participant regardless of what is put in front of him. He is far removed from his MCU persona and his vulnerability make him more relatable and endearing. A nice little touch at the end reveals the actor’s lifestyle changes he incorporates based off of what he’s learned. Some are even doable from your home.
The show relies on the expertise of medical professionals and scientists to add credibility to Limitless with Chris Hemsworth. These are respected individuals in their field and the subjects don’t come off as from the fringe. It’s interesting to learn the origins of their conclusions and theories and there are helpful visuals to better explain what occurs within the body. To further reinforce the science there are real world examples of people living similarly. These vignettes provide inspiring stories of regular people across the globe who altered their lives for the better. They also are a change of pace and short break from the host’s happenings.
Humor is instilled every now and then to break up the dryness of the science. Hemsworth takes a lighthearted and positive approach to his challenges and training. More amusing are the comments from his peanut gallery whether it’s his childhood friends or his other siblings questioning the why behind the madness. Though some scenes, such as when his pals give up in the “Fasting” episode, come off as artificial and staged.
The entire season culminates with taking the actor 50 years into the future. It’s an immersive experience into a retirement home with the promise to “kill” its host. The contraption used to simulate being elderly is fascinating and makes you curious to better understand how it functions and its effects. However, other aspects of the finale seem gimmicky but there isn’t a better way to investigate this topic.
Limitless with Chris Hemsworth is a reflective journey of a near superhuman quest to prolong life backed by intriguing science. It might even inspire adjustments in your own lives.
