The biggest new video games releasing the week of 12/12/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

Holiday shopping season is in full swing, but that doesn’t mean gaming releases are slowing down! 2022 has seen some great video games hit shelves, but there’s a few more left to look forward to before the calendar flips to 2023. Let’s take a look at what video games are coming out this week.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion (12/13)

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion releases hot on the heels of the new Final Fantasy XVI trailer that debuted at The Game Awards 2022. Reunion isn’t a sequel to the 2020 Remake — that’ll drop sometime late 2023/early 2024 — but instead a remaster of the 2007 PSP game Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. It’ll boast HD 3D graphics, full voice acting, a new soundtrack, and updated combat that’s close the gameplay of Final Fantasy VII RemakeReunion acts as a prequel to the Remake project and will surely tide fans over until they can get their hands on the next entry in the series.

Blacktail (12/15)

Become the Baba Yaga and forge your own legend in Blacktail. You’ll play as a teenage girl “accused of witchcraft and expelled from her home.” Out on your own, you’ll have to find living memories to piece together you past and solve the mystery of who you are. Blacktail‘s gameplay will consist of a mix of archery and magic combat with survival elements as well as a dynamic morality system where your choices affect the NPCs and world around you.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Next-Gen Update (12/14)

One of the greatest games of its generation — or perhaps of all time — receives a next-gen update this week. For free! The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update promises faster loading times, ray-tracing, cross-progression between PC and next-gen consoles, haptic feedback on PS5, 60fps, 4K resolution, and many more visual, technical, and performance upgrades. It’ll also includes alternate appearances for Dandelion and Nilfgaardian soldiers based on their Netflix show appearance as well as a treasure hunt quest to get Henry Cavill’s Geralt armor from the show. This update works as the perfect excuse to go back to the world of The Witcher or pick up Wild Hunt for the first time.

Also worth checking out: Aka, Wavetale arriving on consoles and PC, Infinite Guitars, and High on Life.
