Insomniac confirmed today that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch fall 2023 on the PlayStation 5. Fans have been without an update for the past year after the game was announced during a 2021 PlayStation Showcase.
“What a year it’s been for PlayStation Studios; here at Insomniac Games we’ve been in absolute awe of the work of our peers,” creative director Bryan Intihar said in a PlayStation Blog post. “Congrats to everyone on a successful 2022… and here’s to next year being just as exciting as we continue to get Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ready for release next fall.”
Now, this is the video games industry, where release dates are as likely to change as the direction of the wind. So while Insomniac has “confirmed” Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for a fall 2023 release, it could still end being pushed to 2024 or (please god no) 2025. For reference, the first Marvel’s Spider-Man was announced in 2016 and thought to release in 2017 before getting a 2018 release date.
The Spider-Man series has become one of Sony’s best in recent years. Marvel’s Spider-Man released in 2018 to rave reviews and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched in 2020 as one of the first titles for the PlayStation 5. Both entries have since made their way onto PC where they’ve found and even wider audience.
Insomniac won’t be done with Marvel after Spider-Man 2 — we can look forward to Marvel’s Wolverine sometime after the Spider-Man sequel.
