On Tuesday, Aaron Couch of The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Karan Soni will voice Pavitr Prabhakar in Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — the upcoming sequel to their smash hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Despite being part of a multitude of projects, most Marvel fans will likely recognize Soni as Dopinder, the unhinged taxi driver from the Deadpool franchise.
As for Pavitr Prabhakar, he’s not going to be familiar to general audiences. For comic Spidey fans, however, he was one of the best characters to spin out of the original Spider-Verse storyline. Much of his backstory mirrors that of the original/prime Peter Parker, but with elements of Indian culture that made him just different enough to stand out.
Unless I’m not remembering things correctly, Pavitr Prabhakar doesn’t crack wise nearly as much as the American Peter Parker does. Considering Soni’s extensive background in comedy, though, there’s a good chance that the film version of the character will have at least a few good quips up his sleeve.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hits theaters on June 2, 2023.
