Marvel Legends: New Spider-Man wave and more revealed

Even with all the ways Hasbro has messed up lately, it’s hard not to get excited about these upcoming waves.

On Wednesday, Hasbro’s Marvel Legends team held a livestream to reveal a boatload of new figures. As someone who’s regularly lambasted Hasbro over the last couple of years, trust me when I say that new batch offerings is (mostly) worth being excited about.

Most of these aren’t available for preorder, but we’ll start with the 2-pack that is.

Spider-Man Animated Doctor Octopus & Aunt May

It’s understandable if you aren’t psyched for Aunt May from the ’90s Spider-Man animated series. Even for folks who would totally buy an Aunt May figure (a group that likely includes me), this isn’t the version most of us want.

But then you have Doc Ock in his gloriously absurd cartoon outfit. Even better…HE FINALLY HAS BENDABLE TENTACLES. As if that weren’t cool enough, they can also apparently be popped off and used in the last few Doc Ock Marvel Legends releases.

That still might not be worth the $52.99 price tag for a lot of people, but at least this 2-pack is something different and a product fans have been asking for. It’s available now for preorder exclusively from Hasbro Pulse with an expected arrival in July.

Next up are the figures without any preorder info or pretty promotional pictures. Luckily, @preternia (a Twitter account every toy collector should be following) was on the ball with screenshots.

I’m not sure I need this updated look on my Spider-Man shelf, but the articulation makes it worth considering (and a must buy for folks who don’t have a Ben Reilly Spidey).

I’m not a huge fan of this character, but the design is pretty cool.

I wish I didn’t dislike this design so much because the Marvel Legends team did a really nice job with it.

Yes, the design and articulation are oversimplified, but it’s still a character that I need on my shelf.

Just when I thought I was done buying Jessica Drew figures, Hasbro releases this beautiful redesign. I wish they’d made a new head, though — or at least offered an alternate without the eye mask.

I didn’t think I needed a version of this character on my Daredevil shelf, but this fantastic-looking figure might change my mind.

The sculpt looks great, but I can’t get over the blue headpiece. I realize that’s his original look, but I still would greatly prefer it to be painted black.

I’m not a fan of cel shading, but it doesn’t keep these two figures from looking nice.

Now let’s take a look at the non-Spidey offerings, which are also impressive.

This might be the one Iron Man figure I’d actually want to add to my collection.

Good lord did Hasbro do an amazing job with this set. In addition to the clothing consistency, the sculpt and paint are outstanding on both figures.

I’m probably in the minority on this, but I’m not too fond of this look for Thor. Destroyer also looks a lot smaller and stumpier than I’d hoped.

How in the heck can I go from having no interest in something to making shelf space for it? I don’t really care about Hawkeye or his Skycycle, but this set looks amazing. In addition to the beautiful detailing, the soft goods tunic is functionally perfect.

Monica Rambeau in her classic Captain Marvel look is both wonderful and long overdue — although I really wish the costume wings were fabric instead of plastic.

As for Secret Wars Doctor Doom, I appreciate the effort, but that’s going to look bad no matter what you do.

Don’t care about either character, but the figures look great.

Marvel Legends are still priced too high, but this new female body mold is a significant value upgrade for any figure that uses it. The articulation is definitely worth checking out in the video, which we have cued up here.

This will likely make me sound like a heretic, but this is my favorite Captain America look. Also, there’s something deliciously ironic about a great Bucky Cap figure that’s not on the overused Bucky Cap mold.

Didn’t know I wanted this, but now I’m intrigued.

SAME SENTIMENT X 100

The livestream closed with a tease for the next HasLab project, which will be Marvel-based. I’ve heard a lot of folks saying they think it will be a Quinjet, but I just don’t see how that will work with regard to scaling (and the trouble they’ve had getting 6″ scale vehicles to sell).

My guess is something involving more oversized Avengers characters.
