On Wednesday, Denise Petski of Deadline.com reported that Melissa Benoist will be voicing Teela in Masters of the Universe: Revolution, the sequel to Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
According to Petski’s report, Benoist was eager for the chance to work with Smith on the series, stating:
“I jumped at the opportunity to work alongside my friend, Kevin Smith and join the Revolution family as another bold and fearless heroine. I look forward to sharing the next evolution of Teela’s story with fans.”
Normally, losing a huge name like Sarah Michelle Gellar would be a major blow to a series like this (which was really good during its first season). Thankfully, she’s being replaced by someone who is not only exceptionally talented, but very well-known to genre fans thanks to her work as Supergirl on the CW — both in her own series and in multiple appearances in the Arrowverse‘s collection of DC-based shows.
It’s also worth noting that at the end of Revelations, Teela became the new Sorceress of Castle Greyskull, which may end up reducing the character’s role considerably compared to the central one she previously played. Either way, at least know that this version of Teela is still in excellent hands.
Now let’s hope Netflix is close to officially announcing William Shatner as the voice of Hordak soon.
