Joe Quesada to develop new and existing comic book films/series for Amazon

No matter how you feel about ‘One More Day,’ Quesada is still a great hire.

This week, Rosy Cordero of Deadline.com reported that Amazon has hired former Marvel Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada to develop new and existing comic book properties for Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service.

Many comic fans still haven’t forgiven Quesada for Spider-Man: One More Day, which saw Peter and Mary Jane Parker’s marriage erased from existence via a deal with Mephisto (basically the devil) to keep Aunt May alive. If you aren’t familiar with the story, then those who are can confirm that I didn’t just have a stroke — that actually happened in the mainline Spider-Man comics.

That said, he often doesn’t get nearly enough credit for being the creative force behind Marvel Comics’ massive resurgence in the early 2000s. Quesada was also the architect of the Ultimate Universe, which brought in tons of new comic readers and brought back even more lapsed ones. To this day, the Ultimate Comics characters and storylines continue to have a massive influence on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a statement to the press, Quesada expressed his excitement at bringing new comic book properties to the screen with Amazon:

“I can’t begin to express just how thrilled I am to be joining the Amazon Studios family. From the moment Nick Pepper, Matt King, and the team approached me, it was clear we spoke the same language and shared the same creative goals. What was also clear is that they’re creating a collaborative environment and unique methodology that I’m surprised no one has yet thought to implement, but I’m certain will be quickly imitated.”
