On Thursday, Aaron Couch of the Hollywood Reporter revealed that the upcoming Scott Pilgrim anime series will feature most of the main cast from 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World voicing their characters’ roles.
According to Couch, the confirmed voice cast for the Netflix series so far includes:
- Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim
- Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers.
- Kiernan Culkin as Wallace Wells
- Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers
- Chris Evans as Lucas Lee
- Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim
- Brie Larson as Natalie V. “Envy” Adams
- Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram
- Ellen Wong as Knives Chau
- Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel
- Alison Pill as Kim Pine
- Jason Schwartzman as Gideon “G-Man” Graves
- Johnny Simmons as Neil Nordegraf
- Mark Webber as Stephen Still
- Mae Whitman as Roxanne “Roxy” Richter
While actors voicing characters they previously played in live-action (and vice-versa) isn’t anything new, having so many high-caliber actors return over a decade after the film was released is definitely unexpected.
In a statement to the press, director Edgar Wright (who will act as an executive producer on the series) expressed how happy he was to return to the franchise:
“One of the proudest and most enjoyable achievements of my career was assembling and working with the dynamite cast of Scott Pilgrim. Since the film’s release in 2010 we’ve done Q&A’s, remembrances and charity read throughs, but there was never the occasion to reunite the whole gang on an actual project. Until now…
Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer BenDavid Grabinski, have conjured up an anime series of Scott Pilgrim that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also … well, just watch it. I’m more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure. You are in for a treat.”
