The coming-of-age tale Skeleton Crew was first revealed at Star Wars Celebration last year. At this year’s event, we learned even more details about the new series during the Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase. For those not familiar with the show, below is the official description.
“Skeleton Crew” follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home — and meeting unlikely allies and enemies — will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.
Star Jude Law, who was previously announced, came on stage to introduce his young co-stars. They include Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter and Robert Timothy Smith. The fourth member, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, could not make it to Star Wars Celebration. Other adult members of the cast include Tunde Adebimpe and Kerry Condon. Yes, that’s right. The lead singer of TV on the Radio is in a Star Wars series. It has to be those Spider-Man ties to Jon Watts and Christopher Ford.
A sneak peek of Skeleton Crew was shown during the panel, but alas, it’s not for the public. Variety reported that the footage had scenes with the young cast in different situations such as on speeders, in class, and on spaceships. A recognizable antagonist from The Mandalorian appears and the final shot reveals that Law’s character is a Jedi.
Watts and Ford serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside John Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist and Carrie Beck are co-executive producers while John Bartnicki and Susan McNamara are producers. The series has a talented line-up of directors including Watts, Ford, David Lowery, Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Lee Isaac Chung.
Skeleton Crew will stream exclusively later in 2023.
