‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ reveals new character and more at Star Wars Celebration

Here’s what we found out about Star Wars: The Acolyte during the Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase.

There were plenty of reveals at the Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase at this year’s Star Wars Celebration including the release date and teaser trailer for Ahsoka. Another series that takes place in a galaxy far, far away is Star Wars: The Acolyte.

When the show’s creator and showrunner, Leslye Headland, came on stage, she was accompanied by a large Wookie who wasn’t Chewbacca. His name is Kelnacca, and he is a new original Jedi character set to appear in Star Wars: The Acolyte. Headland gave an overview on the upcoming mystery-thriller.

“The Acolyte” will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes but discovers the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

The stars of the series were then brought on stage. In attendance were Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman and Joonas Suotamo. Suotamo will once again play a Wookie, but this time the aforementioned Kelnacca. Other stars that couldn’t be there in person include Carrie-Ann Moss and Margarita Levieva.

A sneak peek was then showed to the audience, but unfortunately for everyone who couldn’t attend Star Wars Celebration, that footage isn’t public. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the video contained a class of padawans inside a Jedi temple, a fight between characters played by Moss and Stenberg, a golden lightsaber, and a group shot of Jedis with their lightsabers unsheathed.

Star Wars: The Acolyte is currently in production. Headland also serves as executive producer along with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson produce. It will stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2024.
