The biggest new video games releasing the week of 5/1/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

Spring is the air, and the outside world beckons with warm weather and sunshine. But that’s not going to stop gamers from staying in and checking out some new games! 2023 has gotten off to an excellent start for video games, with hits like the Dead Space remake releasing alongside indie gems like Season: A Letter to the Future. This week looks to continue that trend with some wonderful new video game releases.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Laya’s Horizon (5/2)

Platforms: Netflix app on Android and iOS

Netflix has slowly but surely expanding its roster of indie games available via its streaming app, like Desta: The Memories Between and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge.  Laya’s Horizon joins this week, promising open world exploration. You’ll fly through its calm and colorful world, gliding past various settlements and terrains. There will be various missions for you to take on as well as a free roam mode.

Mia and the Dragon Princess (5/4)

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Android, and iOS

Mia and the Dragon Princess is a video game/film hybrid. It’s a live-action interactive film that plays like a Telltale or Quantic Dream game — your choices will guide Mia, affecting the story on its way to one of ten different endings. Paul McGann (Doctor Who), MyAnna Buring (The Witcher), and Noa Nikita Bleeker star.

Redfall (5/2)

Platforms: PC and Xbox Series X/S

Redfall is the latest surefire hit from Arkane Austin, the developers behind Dishonored and Prey. Players will travel to the island town of Redfall, which has been taken over by vampires. Via single-player or co-op multiplayer, vampire slayers will battle against vampire masses as they try to survive and uncover the island’s secrets. Redfall features four playable characters with their own sets of abilities and backgrounds.
