[Fantasia ’23] Fantasia Film Festival announces final wave including Nicolas Cage, lost cats, and more Korean cinema

The lineup is set!

The Fantasia International Film Festival celebrates its 27th edition with a large and varied selection of screenings. One of the biggest announcements is the reveal that Nicolas Cage is going to be honored with the Cheval Noir Career Achievement Award. After four decades, Cage has been an Oscar winner, a leading man, a meme, and the most popular actor on the internet. He has given the world a number of memorable roles and the World Premiere of Sympathy for the Devil looks to another one.

Fans of of Summer of ’84 and Turbo Kid will be glad to hear that the newest release from filmmakers RKSS will make its world premiere at Fantasia. We Are Zombies is set in a society where the “living impaired” roam with humans and have no urge to eat flesh. If that sounds a little too serious, Mary Dauterman returns with Booger, a film about lost cats and grief.

This year, Fantasia will be paying tribute to Korean cinema. To that end, there were more Korean movies announced. The Phantom is a tense spy thriller that takes places during 1933 and whose cast includes actors from Parasite, Squid Game, and Decision to Leave. There will also be screenings of 1999’s classic Peppermint Candy and the underrated folk horror Io Island. Fans of genre cinema will have a lot to choose from.

The Fantasia International Film Festival takes place from July 20 – August 9. Fantasia, news, tickets, and films can be found HERE
