Welcome back to another edition of Fantastic Five! This week, a new tie-in from DC’s Knight Terrors takes the top spot, but Image Comics takes a stunning three spots in the top five best comics of the week! Let’s take a look at the books:
#5: Battle Chasers #11
All told, Battle Chasers‘ 11th issue is a darn fine comic. The action is bold and creative. The character work is strong. The story beats are intriguing. And Lullabi’s color work is really, really striking — especially a gradual and then sudden shift in primary page colors from a dusky orange to an increasingly supernatural blue — one executed in concert with a solidly assembled and exciting cliffhanger.

#4: Nocterra: Nemesis Special #1
Nocterra: Nemesis Special is a spectacular read that sets everything in place for the final chapter of this story. With only one issue left in this arc, there’s a lot that Nemesis Specialsucceeds in doing to lay the groundwork for what seems to be an epic conclusion to “No Brakes”. Not only does it deliver a battle that many have expected for a long time, but it delivers one that lives up to the stakes built around it. Furthermore, this issue is a blast to read from start to finish.

#3: A Vicious Circle #2
A Vicious Circle #2 doesn’t disappoint with a great action frenzy of a second issue. This issue also doesn’t hold back with answers and a fulfilling sense of the heroism of our main character and the hard choices he must make. This series sets a high bar for time travel stories with its pulse-pounding action and incredible art.

#2: Radiant Black #25
Radiant Black #25 launches the biggest storyline of the series to date, while pushing it in an entirely new direction. This has been one of my favorite comics ever since it launched two years ago, and it’s clear that the creative team is aiming to truly shake things up when the Catalyst War is done. Simply put: this is one of the few comic book events that might actually live up to the hype.

#1: Knight Terrors: Superman #1
Knight Terrors: Superman sets itself as a strong story for Superman and, interestingly enough, his cousin Supergirl. The story follows the generalized Knight Terrors format but with an ending twist as Insomnia comes after the Red-Blue Blur and manipulates his dreams to reveal his greatest fears. Williamson plays with Clark Kent’s fears a lot better than he did his dark and brooding companion in Knight Terrors: Batman, and it shows.
