At AMC’s The Walking Dead panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we finally got a decent look at the upcoming Rick Grimes and Michonne spinoff along with a title for the series: The Ones Who Live.
My disappointment at the first trailer being less than 30 seconds was nothing compared to the 11 seconds of title credits. We also don’t get a release date — just another nebulous statement about the six-episode miniseries coming in 2024.
Let’s put aside those complaints for now and break down what the teaser actually does show us:
- Michonne is still a badass and still looking for Rick, who she knows is alive.
- The Civic Republic Military appears to be dealing with a problem that involves explosions and gunfire.
- We see Rick Grimes appearing to kill a walker (from the walker’s POV) while under the supervision of a CRM member.
- There’s a blurry image of someone else being stabby who may be Rick Grimes, but I can’t be sure.
And that’s about it. We actually got a lot more information from The Walking Dead series finale, which makes this trailer kind of pointless beyond the cool aesthetic of Michonne’s silhouette and voiceover.
Let’s hope the next trailer that AMC releases provides a bit more information.
