SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

The Ghost HasLab campaign is already close to being funded!

Even as someone who routinely criticizes Hasbro, I couldn’t help but be blown away by what the Star Wars team presented at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Let’s take a look at the wonderful offerings from this past weekend starting with the 3.75″ scale Vintage Collection.

HasLab: The Ghost

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series revealsEven though most of us knew this was coming, we still weren’t collectively prepared for how utterly gorgeous the Vintage Collection Ghost would look. Here’s a video from Hasbro showing off the features of this gorgeous piece of plastic, which include:

  • Opening front ramp
  • Removable landing gear
  • Multiple removable panels for interior access and play
  • Nose turret with removable canopy
  • Signature 360-degree dorsal laser cannon turret
  • THE PHANTOM II (AND IT’S NOT A STRETCH GOAL)
  • Docking bay for the Phantom II to snap into place
  • A carded Vintage Collection Herra figure based on her appearance in Ahsoka

This is the largest 3.75″-scale Star Wars vehicle that Hasbro has ever produced. Because of this (and the incredible design work), many of us had already assumed the price would be $650. Instead, it will carry the same $500 price tag as Jabba’s Sail Barge from 2019.

Don’t get me wrong — $500 is still a lot. But considering that this ship is bigger and arguably even more detailed, Hasbro is actually giving us a really great value even before the stretch goals.

Speaking of those, let’s check them out. The campaign requires 8,000 backers by September 6 at 11:59 PM for the Ghost to go into production. Considering that it’s already halfway there at the time of this being written, it’s a safe bet that will happen.

  • At 11,00 backers, everyone will get a carded Vintage Collection Ezra Bridger figure based on his appearance in Ahsoka.

  • At 14,000 backers, everyone gets a carded Vintage Collection Kanan Jarrus figure.

At 17,000 backers, everyone gets a carded Vintage Collection Zeb figure.

While I’ve certainly been wrong before about a crowdfunded campaign’s potential success, this one appears to be tracking just fine. It will also get a big boost when Ahsoka premieres next month.

As you can see, the figures come packed with some great accessories. They’re also very likely to see general releases, meaning that these will be special versions for your collection or to sell and help offset the Ghost’s cost. If you’d like to see some real, in-hand pictures of the stretch goal figures, ToyArk posted a huge gallery of pictures from the Hasbro showroom display. I’ll post a few of them below, but you really should check out the other great photos on ToyArk — especially the ones that show the inside of the ship.

Click here if you want to join me and thousands of other fans in adding this massive/beautiful set to your collection. If you do, you might also want to consider signing up for Hasbro Pulse membership. The $50 ended up being less than the Ghost’s shipping cost and reduced the added sales tax, as well.

It also might be worth having another place to buy figures considering all the great Vintage Collection offerings Hasbro has coming our way. The following figures/sets are currently available for preorder (assuming they haven’t sold out yet) from most major retailers except for the 4-pack, which is a Hasbro Pulse/ShopDisney exclusive.

Now let’s take a look at the “regular” Vintage Collection offerings, which are still pretty great.

Pre Vizsla

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

We’ve already discussed this one’s bulky Black Series counterpart. Thankfully, the Vintage Collection Pre Vizsla appears to be much better proportioned. The figure will retail for $16.99 and is expected to arrive in Spring 2024.

Darth Revan

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

It may have taken Hasbro a while to get his one right, but it looks like they absolutely nailed it. The figure will retail for $16.99 and is expected to arrive in Spring 2024.

Grand Admiral Thrawn

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

Yet another incredibly well-made figure that’s also a must buy. It’s a little disappointing that the facial portrait isn’t closer to the animated likeness, but definitely not a dealbreaker.

Grand Admiral Thrawn will retail for $16.99 and is expected to arrive this fall.

Imperial Officer 4-pack

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

Even if you don’t care who Admiral Motti and Admiral Piett are, this set — which also includes two nameless officers — is a great way to build out your Empire display shelves. It will be available exclusively from Hasbro Pulse and ShopDisney and cost $59.99. The officers should report to your doorstep sometime this fall.

Chewbacca (Life Day)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

This was not something I thought I needed, but maybe I do.

The figure will retail for $16.99 and be available from most major retailers. It will be a ShopDisney exclusive and is expected to be available on November 1st.

“Deluxe” Sabine Wren (Ahsoka)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

I really wanted a realistic depiction of Sabine Wren from the upcoming Ahsoka series, but this ain’t it.

For starters, the slip-on helmet makes her head look like she’s about to take the court for NBA Jam. You could obviously display her without the helmet (especially since the facial portrait is a good likeness of Natasha Liu Bordizzo), but then you’d still be left with the exorbitant $27.99 price tag. I love loth-cats as much as the next person, but the inclusion of one doesn’t justify blatant price gouging.

I’ll definitely be waiting for a different release or an inevitable markdown when this goes on clearance. If you want to pay full price, however, the figure is expected to arrive at most major retailers this fall from most major retailers. Preorders will open on August 10 at 1:00 PM ET.

Ahsoka Tano (Ahsoka)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

Not sure why this was released already when the previous version (which is virtually identical) is still easy to find at a discount. If you gotta have this figure on an Ahsoka card (or just want to pay $16.99), it is expected to be available this fall from most major retailers. Preorders will open on August 10 at 1:00 PM ET.

Vintage Collection Pipeline Reveals

  • Axe Woves (Didn’t we already have this guy?)
  • Mandalorian (…and this one?)
  • Grogu (…and this one?)
  • Finn (Will depend greatly on if they get the likeness right or not)
  • Andor, Rogue One (Meh)
  • Clone Trooper, Phase I (Meh again)
  • Mandalorian Commander (Cool)
  • Count Dooku (FINALLY)

Now let’s take a look at the Black Series offerings, which were surprisingly good. It also appears that the line is fully back to window box packaging, which is definitely a plus.

R2D2

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

Already got this little guy on my shelf, but glad there’s another release for folks who need him — especially with all the added accessories. Not sure that justifies the $24.99 price tag, but it’s still a great figure.

R2-D2 is currently available for preorder from most major retailers with an expected arrival this fall.

Herra Syndulla (Ahsoka)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

I love my Black Series Herra Syndulla from a few years ago, but I’m also a huge Mary Elizabeth Winstead fan.

My conflict over purchasing this version became even more complicated after eagle-eyed collectors noticed that neither this figure nor the upcoming Black Series Sabine Wren have thigh swivel articulation. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing — it arguably makes the figure looks better. But it’s still something that needs to be considered.

Ahsoka will be available from most major retailers this fall. The figure goes up for preorder on August 10 at 1:00 PM ET.

Sabine Wren (Ahsoka)

At least this figure looks better portioned with a helmet on than its Vintage Collection counterpart. The facial portrait isn’t as crisp as I was hoping, but it’s still pretty good.

Sabine Wren will be available from most major retailers this fall. The figure goes up for preorder on August 10 at 1:00 PM ET.

Ahsoka Tano (Ahsoka)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

I actually like this version of the figure a little better than the previous Black Series release. That being said, the difference isn’t large enough to pay $24.99 for such a minor upgrade.

Ahsoka will be available from most major retailers this fall. The figure goes up for preorder on August 10 at 1:00 PM ET.

Hasbro also revealed a new wave of Holiday Edition figures, including the first one I will definitely be buying. Most of them are exclusives, which will be noted in the titles. The figures will retail for $27.99 and do not have a preorder window. They are expected to arrive at their various retailers sometime this fall, which isn’t something I’d bet money on.

Holiday Edition Mandalorian Scout (Amazon)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

If you read my articles regularly (HI MOM!), then you know how much I love the color blue. Slap a great blue paint job on a Mando figure, add an ugly sweater print, throw in an Anzellan, and I’m totally going to cave and pay the exorbitant cost for this one.

Holiday Edition Snowman Trooper (Target)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

This one didn’t strike my fancy in the first place, but being a Target exclusive makes it a very easy pass.

Holiday Edition KX Security Droid (Walmart)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

That goes double for this one being exclusive to Walmart.

Holiday Edition Purge Trooper (Fan Channel)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

This one’s a bit tempting though — especially since it’ll be available via Fan Channel (i.e. toy-centered) retailers.

Holiday Edition Ewok (Hasbro Pulse/ShopDisney)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

The $27.99 price tag is even worse for this small figure, but it’s so darn adorable. The Ewok is cute enough on its own, but the Porg really brings it home.

Holiday Edition Jawa with Salacious Crumb (Fan Channel)

SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals SDCC 2023: Hasbro Star Wars Vintage Collection and Black Series reveals

Curse you, Hasbro. Curse you for making me want a holiday-themed Jawa and monkey lizard. I think I’ll be able to hold out, but as someone who doesn’t like/buy Jawas normally, I can’t help but be impressed by how festively charming this set is.

Black Series Pipeline Reveals

  • Amazon exclusive Jedi: Fallen Order 3-pack w/ Cal Kestis, Purge Trooper, and Second Sister (I don’t collect figures from this game, but I’m glad folks who do can get all these characters in one shot if they need them).
  • Droideka (Never been a big Prequel Droid fan, but folks who are should be excited).
  • Hasbro Pulse exclusive Battle Droid and Geonosis C-3P0 2-pack (That’s…definitely a set).
