Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

If you’re a 90’s kid, then there’s sure to be some upcoming Marvel Legends figures you’ll want for your collection.

Let’s look at what Hasbro had to offer at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 for their Marvel Legends toyline. While it would be hard for anyone to outshine the Star Wars team this year, the Legends crew came through with some great new offerings. We also saw Marvel Legends return to windowed packaging, which is worth celebrating.

The following figures are branded as Marvel Knights. Each is currently available for preorder (assuming they aren’t sold out) at most major retailers and carry a $24.99 price tag. They are expected to arrive this winter.

Blade

I’m not sure I’ve ever wanted a Blade figure until seeing how great this one looks.

Clea

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

Not a character I’m a fan of, but the figure looks outstanding.

The Fist Ninja

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

The only downside to this figure is that it’s not priced for army building. Just look at all those awesome accessories!

Luke Cage

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

…and then you have poor Luke Cage, who is an outstanding figure with a terrible lack of accessories.

Gamerverse Iron Man

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

Oh goodie…another Iron Man.

Lady Bullseye

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

You better believe this one is getting preordered and added to my Daredevil shelf as soon as possible. In addition to the superb paint/sculpt, those accessories are phenomenal.

Daredevil

I’m actually not a huge fan of the storyline with this version/costume of Matt Murdock, but the figure is really nice (if you can ignore the wonky knees).

Build-A-Figure Mindless One

Never thought I’d want one of these, but it looks really cool — especially with the effect accessory.

Next up is another fun offering from the Retro Collection/VHS packaging line.

Smythe & Peter Parker

I’ve already got the Peter Parkers I want on my Spider-Man shelf. If I didn’t, though, then this would be a potential buy. Unfortunately, I’ve never liked Smythe’s design from the 90’s Spider-Man animated series — even when it’s done this well in plastic form.

The set will retail for $52.99 and is available for preorder exclusively from Hasbro Pulse. It is expected to arrive this fall.

Next up is a set of figures that’s sure to be a hit with us old folks who grew up with the 90’s X-Men Animated series — or anyone who likes great toys, for that matter.

While I normally try to give a unique comment for each figure in a wave reveal, every one of X-Men ’97 figures carries the same analysis with a couple of exceptions:

  • They all look absolutely fantastic.
  • They all have a disappointing lack of accessories except for Wolverine and Wolverine.

The alternate Wolverine heads may make him the best of the bunch by default. Otherwise, it’s nearly impossible to determine which one of these exceptional figures is the best. Each one will retail for $24.99 and be available from most major retailers this fall. No preorder info has been released at this time.

And now for the panel’s sole 3.75″ scale offering, which is nearly as bad as expected.

X-Men ’97 Team Up Pack

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

I normally don’t even cover Hasbro’s current 3.75″ Marvel offerings. In addition to most of them having only 5 points of articulation, they tend to be grossly overpriced. It’s also where resources are being directed instead of a super articulated 3.75″ line, which makes me grumpy.

With the X-Men ’97 Team Up pack, however, we get figures that have a little more movement (7-10 points of articulation) and a retail price of $44.99, which comes out to around $9 per figure. That still won’t entice me to buy the line, but at least there’s some genuine/appropriate value there for collectors who may be interested.

Unfortunately, the set is also a Target exclusive. No preorder information has been released yet, but I think all know it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.

These next figures don’t have any official release dates or promotional pictures available (as of this being written), but they were shown in the SDCC display. We’ll take a look at them via screenshots from the Marvel Legends team’s official fan stream, Hasbro designer Steve Evans’ Instagram, and some awesome folks who snagged a few good shots from the floor:

MCU Black Widow (Iron Man 2)

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 revealEvery Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

I don’t normally collect MCU figures, but those head sculpts might have me making an exception when this figure is released.

MCU Iron Man (Mark II)

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

Folks seem to be pretty excited about this one, but I find it hard to find enthusiasm for any Iron Man figure made lately — especially when they’re based on the older MCU movies.

MCU Bruce Banner

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

It could just be the photo, but the portrait of Mark Ruffalo looks dead inside. That sculpt and jacket are great, though.

Vision (Comics)

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

Not something I need for my collection, but a great update for those who do.

Justice

Every Hasbro Marvel Legends SDCC 2023 reveal

This will definitely make the New Warriors fans out there happy.

Power Princess

The Squadron Supreme is finally complete!

Detroit Steel

Not familiar with this character, but that design all but demands a salute. It’s a shame the figure will end up costing so much due to its size.

Crystar

I…honestly don’t even know what to say. These are truly strange times that we’re living in.

Also, a huge thanks to TOYCOLLECTR for snapping some photos of this bizarre and wonderful figure that show just how cool the design is.

Odds and Ends

The Adventures in Collecting podcast and MCUcollector 24 give us our best look at some of the figures previously unseen (or “officially” unseen) Marvel Legends figures from the upcoming What If…? and Disney+ waves.

https://twitter.com/aic_podcast/status/1681997681181245440?s=20

Initial thoughts:

  • Goliath looks great.
  • Kingpin is still too skinny.
  • Agatha Harkness only looks like Kathryn Hahn if you squint.
  • Yelena Belova is better than what we say with the leaked photos.
  • Another Hydra Stomper is a waste of a Build-A-Figure.

MCU Collector also got a shot of a female Hydra trooper who has been conspicuously absent from any promotional material — at least that I can find. Let’s hope she gets an official announcement soon!

Upcoming Teases

(Photos via the Marvel Legends Collectors Facebook group)

The Marvel Legends panel concluded with a pair of teases. One was a vault door that no one (including me) seems to have any clue about. The other was a Dock Ock arm from the character’s appearance in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
