New video gams week of 7.24

Gaming

The biggest new video games releasing the week of 7/24/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The Summer of Gaming gave us plenty of excellent video games to look forward to this year and next, but let’s not forget about the games you’ll be playing sooner rather than later. While The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has drawn most everyone’s attention this year, July still has plenty of exciting new releases to play and fall in love with.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Disney Illusion Island (7/28)

Platform: Switch

Grab a few friends and head on over to Illusion Island. The 2D platformer features up to four-player co-op, with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck as playable characters. The art style of Disney Illusion Island is wonderful and looks like a cartoon your kids would watch on Disney+. It joins a growing roster of video games from the House of Mouse, such as Disney SpeedstormDisney Mirrorverse, and Disney Dreamlight Valley.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series (7/27)

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

The resurrected Telltale and Deck Nine have collaborated to develop The Expanse: A Telltale Series, the first original release from Telltale since 2019. It’ll act as a prequel to the show and follow Camina Drummer, who’s played by Cara Gee, her actress from the show. Expect classic Telltale game mechanics and release structure to return; the first episode drops July 27 with episodes 2-5 releasing every two weeks.

Remnant 2 (7/25)

Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Remnant: From the Ashes was a surprise hit back in 2019 and its sequel comes out tomorrow. Like the first game, Remnant 2 is a soulslike third-person shooter with difficult enemies and tough bosses standing in your way. Just about everything in the game will be procedurally generated — not just the level layouts and spawn points but bosses, NPCs, and even questlines will vary each time you boot up a level. Nobody’s experience will be the same, meaning you’ll always find something unique with each level.

Also worth checking out: Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, Hogwarts Legacy on Switch, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on PC, Return to Monkey Island on Android and iOS, and High on Life on PS4 and PS5.
