Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto continue their incredible run on Daredevil, and they enlist artists Manuel Garcia and Rafael de Latorre to help bring the battles, both physical and inner, to spectacle in Daredevil and Elektra: The Red Fist Saga Part Two. This arc continues as Daredevil and Elektra take The Fist to The Hand to eradicate their evil.
In issue #6, there is progress in the upcoming war between the Fist and the Hand. A wild reveal of their hold over the President and the Punisher will have you wondering how much more control the Hand holds, Daredevil is dealing with a heavy crown as a leader, and Elektra is on the run. Are they strong enough for war? Zdarsky and de Latorre bring intense drama to this chapter of the Red Fist Saga.
Daredevil #7 advances the showdown between the Fist and the Hand. The reformed villains get a moment to think beyond themselves and put their reform into action, making this a significant character issue. By the end of it all, you know there is a deadly threat waiting for these characters. The Fist comes face-front to a Hand Leader Punisher and a giant dragon. Luckily, Daredevil and company have had at least some time to form bonds, but the upcoming battle will test and challenge them as the fires start, so get ready.
In issue #8, Zdarsky and Checchetto bring the battle to epic proportions as the Punisher goes up against the Daredevils. Two characters, firmly entrenched in their beliefs, come to blows for an action-packed issue that highlights the characters inside while building up the suspense for the war. That is the great drama of this showdown as we have seen Frank and Matt come together or face off, but this time the stakes are higher as their beliefs influence others to act. Some of those who have to act are more avenging due to Matt’s actions of gathering followers for the Fist. A third party is about to enter the way. Does this hurt or help Matt?
For Daredevil #9, artist Manuel Garcia joins Chip Zdarsky as they slam the Fist into the wall. How will Matt Murdock handle the testing of his faith? Lots of action, drama, and character in this turning point issue for the battle against the Hand, with a fourth element coming to fight. The Stromwyn twins return, bringing the deadly ReCID, an excellent springboard for other bombshells to hit Matt and the Fist. Matt needs to get back in check, but that will be a feat as he learns Foggy and Stick are gone, some followers are leaving, and the Avengers just showed up.
Concluding this trade in issue #10, Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto, and Matthew Wilson take Matt Murdock to task as they put him against Spider-Man. Faith will challenge responsibility, and this will make Matt have to forge his destiny by going against everyone to survive. This battle is even better than Matt vs. Frank – we see Peter Parker facing off against one of his friends, and Zdarsky has grown their relationship even more with his time as the series writer. This fight is heartbreaking; no matter who wins, both heroes will lose. An entertaining turning point in Daredevil’s history!
There is very little regarding extras within the trade paperback collection, just the standard variant cover gallery. As a fellow collector, I get these trades as loaners for friends to read because I think that this run of Daredevil is amazing. I do choose the To Heaven Through Hell hardcover collections, but if you are looking for a frugal group that can keep you up to speed with this era of adventure, then these trade collections will do just that. Plus, a great bonus is you don’t have to wait month to month for the issues, but the wait for the next and last trade will be hard after that ending.
