The biggest new video games releasing the week of 8/21/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The Summer of Gaming gave us plenty of excellent video games to look forward to this year and next, but let’s not forget about the games you’ll be playing sooner rather than later. While The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has drawn most everyone’s attention this year, this summer still has plenty of exciting new releases to play and fall in love with.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Immortals of Aveum (8/22)

Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

You’ve played first-person shooters with guns and grenades before, of course, but how about with spells and sorcery? Immortals of Aveum is a first-person fantasy RPG that everyone’s called “Call of Duty with magic” at least once. It’s the first game from Ascendant Studios, a new studio made up of Telltale,  Call of Duty, and Dead Space veterans. It’s set in a world scarred by wars over the control of magic and you’ll play as Jak, a sorcerer who finds himself at the center of the conflict.

Fort Solis (8/22)

Platforms: PC, PS5

Survive through the night on Mars in Fort Solis. Starring Roger Clark, Julia Brown, and Troy Baker, Fort Solis is a psychological thriller that casts you as Jack Leary, and engineer investigating a distress signal at a Mars mining base. He’ll search the base for signs of what happened to its occupants while trying to avoid their fate himself.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon (8/25)

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

Armored Core VI sees FromSoftware returning to one of their early series after a decade of mostly focusing on soulsborne games. Fires of Rubicon improves upon the mech-based, action-packed combat the AC series is known for; players will be able to customize their mech how they see fit, allowing for a range of movement and weapon options in battle. The boss fights are nothing to sneeze at as Armored Core VI looks to bring the intensity the souls games are known for to its boss battles.

Also worth checking out: Mirrored Souls, WrestleQuest, Blasphemous 2, and Lost Eidolons on consoles.
