In Klik Klik Boom #3, the relentless pursuit of revenge by the mute assassin Sprout against Minerva World Services continues. Her target this time is Harvard Dillinger, the man responsible for her grandfather’s death. As in the previous issues, Sprout will stop at nothing to get her hands on him, but Dillinger may also prove to be a formidable opponent.
I cannot say enough good things about Klik Klik Boom as a series. Reading the story so far has been an absolute blast, and Sprout has quickly become my new favorite Silent Bob. You never know what to expect next from her as a character, and her communication through Polaroid pictures only makes you love her even more with images that say things like “Count to 20 then go here.” Add her limitless ability to cause death traps around every corner for the bad guys, and Sprout is just one badass heroine.
And everyone knows that Silent Bob’s got to have a Jay, and Sprout’s Jay is online reporter Serena. Serena has been on the run and looking over her shoulder ever since Sprout came into her life, but the dynamic of the two together has worked beautifully so far. Serena acts as a parental figure in Sprout’s life and is the closest emotional connection Sprout has other than her pet rabbit, Beatrix. But the two are getting luckier and luckier with each encounter with Minerva World Services hitmen; only time will tell if Sprout, Serena, or Beatrix make it out alive. Doug Wagner has outdone himself with the storytelling for this series.
Artist Doug Dabbs does an impeccable job with character designs, panel angles, and transitions, and his action sequences are top-notch. If a knife is pointed at a character, you feel like it’s pointed at you. That’s how much of an impact his panel work leaves on you as a reader. Dabbs knows how to bring the right mix of suspense, action, and memorable moments to each panel he illustrates. Colorist Matt Wilson’s brilliant display of colors complements Dabbs’s work incredibly well, bringing boldness to each page. A great example of how Wilson’s colors elevate the story is how easy it is to tell the difference between the ongoing story and when Sprout is having a flashback moment from her youth.
Klik Klik Boom #3 will leave a lasting impression on you if you’ve been a fan of this series. Hopefully, Sprout will live long enough to get revenge for her grandfather and live the rest of her life happily. Only time will tell. With two issues left, anything can happen.
