Brooklyn Horror Film Festival lineup includes tribute to ‘Maniac Cop’

Calling all ‘Maniac Cop’ fans!

There are few better ways to celebrate the spooky season than by watching a bunch of scary movies. The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival is giving horror audiences plenty for fans with this year’s edition. Running from October 12-19, the fest will have a number of films and events, including presenting the inaugural Leviathan Award to director William Lusting. (Yes, there will be a special 35th anniversary screening of Maniac Cop.)

The Opening Night film will be the world premiere of Kill Your Lover, a story about attempting to leave a toxic relationship. Filled with practical effects, body horror, and two strong performances, the movie is sure to leave a mark on audiences. The Sacrifice Game is a holiday horror that will close the fest.

Additional highlights include NYC horror royalty Larry Fessenden’s latest, the werewolf chiller Blackout; the Adams Family’s decade-spanning Hellbender follow-up, Where the Devil Roams; Brazilian chamber piece Property; Amanda Kramer’s tech-minded documentary So Unreal; Cannes selection Tiger Stripes; Robert Morgan’s trippy animation/live-action hybrid Stopmotion; and Jason Yu’s Sleep, hot off its inclusion as part of TIFF Midnight Madness. The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival will also have short film blocks, sidebar programs, screenings of restored classics, and other special events.
