The Super Mario games have certainly evolved over the years, with 3D entries like Super Mario 3D World to make-your-own-level games like Super Mario MakerSuper Mario Bros. Wonder is the first traditional side-scrolling Mario adventure in over a decade. It’s a mix of classic and new Mario, with players still collecting coins and avoiding enemies as they traverse levels. New power-ups include a drill hat and the ability for Mario to turn into an elephant. There are also various ways to tackle stages, inviting replayability for when you just can’t get enough.

Hellboy Web of Wyrd (10/18)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

Hellboy Web of Wyrd absolutely nails the aesthetic of the comics as Mike Mignola’s art comes to life in the game. It’s roguelike brawler that has Hellboy navigating an ever-changing world and using his Right Hand of Doom to knock enemies on their ass. To stay faithful to the source material, the developers collaborated with Mignola on the game’s narrative, which features Hellboy searching for a missing BPRD agent.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (10/20)

The symbiote suit! Venom! Brooklyn and Queens! Pete and Miles both as playable Spider-Men! How could you not be hyped for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2? Five years after the original and three years after the Miles Morales spinoff, we finally get to venture back to Insomniac’s wonderful Spider-Man playground. It’ll feature new venom powers for Miles, new takedowns for both heroes, new suits, more accessibility features, an expanded map that includes Brooklyn and Queens, and another gut-punching story.
