‘Fantastic Four – Deluxe Steel Boxed Set’ is packed with great accessories

The new Mezco One:12 Fantastic Four set is impressive.

There aren’t too many iterations of the Fantastic Four in toy form that collectors genuinely value. That’s partly because Hasbro only recently pulled off a great thing, but it’s also a big ask to have someone buy all four figures. Enter Mezco, now shipping the One:12 Fantastic Four – Deluxe Steel Boxed Set. At $420 retail, this set features all four Fantastic Four members, tons of accessories, and a giant steel box to keep it all safe. It’s a set I preordered over two years ago, and with it in hand, I can safely say it’s impressive in its attention to detail.

Per usual, for One:12, this set comes with action figures wearing real cloth costumes. It suits this iteration of the Fantastic Four as they all wear their customary blue-cloth-looking costumes anyway. After you open the steel box, you’ll find all four figures and every additional head to go with them.

The heads come with different expressions with Human Torch’s flame-head getting a light-up feature. These figures are well made with great sculpting of hair and facial features. Absolutely no complaints with the details there and the points of articulation are great. You can pose these as well as any conventional action figure. In fact, go back and watch my review of the Marvel Legends Fantastic Four set to see what I mean. The level of detail is far and away better with the new Mezco set.

'Fantastic Four - Deluxe Steel Boxed Set' review

Underneath the top layer of action figures are three layers of accessories. As you can see in the image above, a lot goes with each character. Multiple hands for each character, six Invisible Woman effects, 15 flame effects, a trench coat for Thing, and an extended neck, body, legs, and extra-large hands for Mr. Fantastic. They didn’t skimp on a single character.

Invisible Woman is particularly well done, as there are magnetic effects to connect to her head, as well as a cool-looking shield. Each character also gets a Fantastic Four base and post to help pose the characters.

Human Torch also gets a flame stand that lights up (batteries included). A right hand tossing fireballs is another great touch. Hardcore fans are going to appreciate the Yancy Street signpost, which adds a little something to setting the scene. Unfortunately, the light that goes inside his flame head wouldn’t turn on for me, but it’s similar technology as the Ghost Rider figure so I know it’ll look really good.

Last but not least, H.E.R.B.I.E comes with a display base, interchangeable arms, and rocket boosters. There are nice details on this goofy robot, including a back flap that reveals buttons of all sorts of colors.

'Fantastic Four - Deluxe Steel Boxed Set' review

As you can see, each figure comes with a lot, which is good since, technically, each figure breaks down to $105. That’s a bit on the steep side, but given the cool steel box and great packaging, it beats buying four cheaper figures and wondering where you’ll store them. That is if you’re not playing with them!

The accessories are what put this set over the top for me and make it worth a recommendation. The flame effects, Invisible Woman effects, and incredible stretch looks you can show off Mr. Fantastic in all add up to an FF set that leans into each character’s best features worth displaying. That’s something you can’t say about most Fantastic Four action figures.
