New video games worth playing for the week of 2/26/24

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

As one excellent year for video games ends, another begins. 2024 promises indie darlings and Triple A hits week after week, and those games start launching now.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake (2/28)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is the latest beloved classic to be remade. Originally released in 2013, Brothers follows, well, two brothers who journey through a fantastical world in search of a cure for their ailing father. Filled to the brim with heartfelt moments and emotional story beats, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is one of those games where you’ll want to keep a box of tissues around just in case the tears start flowing. Gameplay-wise, it’s unique in that each brother is controlled with an individual thumbstick and you’ll have to control them at the same time to solves puzzles and advance through levels.

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster (2/28)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S

Nightdive Studios, known for its recent remasters of Doom 64Turok 3, and Quake II, sets its sights on Star Wars with its Dark Forces remaster. Originally released in 1995, Dark Forces is a Doom-like FPS and Star Wars fan favorite. The remaster upgrades the game’s graphical fidelity, offering up to 4K resolution and 120FPS; enhanced lighting and effects; and modern controller enhancements like a weapon wheel and rumble.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2/29)

Platform: PlayStation 5

As the middle entry in the Final Fantasy VII  remake trilogy, Rebirth has a lot riding on it — Rebirth must build off the story and gameplay of the first entry, originally released in 2020 for the PS4, while setting up what will surely be a satisfying and high-leverage conclusion in the final entry. It picks up where Remake left off, following Cloud and friends as they leave Midgar and continue their quest to defeat Shinra and Sephiroth to save the world. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has already received numerous reviews full of praise, and you can play through the demo to get your FF7 Rebirth fix before the full game launches on Thursday.
