Digital comic book reading app Ominbius is closing up shop. In an email to its subscribers today, Omnibus revealed will be closing its app, with readers given until August 21st to download backups of the comics they’ve purchased.
But why now?
As Omnibus put it:
We aren’t growing fast enough and would require a significant amount of external funding to proceed and become sustainable. This is a tough business to achieve that within the current landscape.
Omnibus revealed email reminders will be sent closer to the final date with the option of limited refunds for “our super fans.”
This is incredibly horrowing news in an industry very light on options as far as digital comics reading. Comixology was once the king in digital reading, but closed up shop and moved to Amazon late last year. Once on Amazon, a slew of issues have riddled that app, although Amazon was making fixes over the months since it was the main way of getting comics.
Another growing option is GlobalComix. Read our review of their app beta here.
Let us know in the comments if you were an Omnibus reader and your thoughts on the future of digital comics reading.
