SDCC ’24: ‘Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ shares new characters and voice talent

Get ready for Metalhead, mechazoids, sea enemies and more in Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an upcoming animated series arriving to Paramount+ which serves as a continuation to the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the creators and stars brought more insight on what fans can expect including new characters appearing this season.

On the show, Leo, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey continue to protect New York City from threats while living their teenage lives. However, this time out, they are on their own as each pursues their individual paths. It takes a threat like new antagonist, Bishop (Alanna Ubach), to bring them back together. The nefarious villain channels her inner Sentinel as she sets out to destroy all mutants. To carry out Bishop’s plan, we receive our first look at her army of robots called mechazoids.

Another group that comes into conflict with our heroes in a half shell are the street gang, the Purple Dragons. Two prominent members are Hun, voiced by Carlin James, and Angel, voiced by Jamila Velazquez.

In the second arc of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the titular crew clash with a group of aquatic mutants known as the East River Three. They consist of leader Goldfin (Timothy Olyphant), electrical enforcer Lee the Eel (Jillian Bell), and the monstrous Mustang Sally (Danny Trejo). We also received a sneak peek at their henchmen the sea enemies.

The creators also shared two main title sequences that revealed other new additions. For the main title sequence of the East River Three arc, we saw multiple members of the Mutanimals including Wingnut, Ray Fillet, and Genghis Toad. It was previously announced the voice actors from Mutant Mayhem would be reprising their roles. Unfortunately fans not in attendance will have to wait until the series premieres to see that opening.

Paramount+ did share the other main title sequence, and if you look hard, you’ll see Hun of the Purple Dragons as well as Metalhead, the robotic turtle.
