Summer is in full swing, and what better way to beat the heat than staying inside and enjoying indie darlings and Triple A hits releasing week after week? This year has a lot to live up to compared to 2023’s best video games, but it’s been strong so far with releases like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Little Kitty, Big City winning over gamers and cat lovers alike.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
Concord (8/23)
Platforms: PC and PlayStation 5
Hero shooters have been growing in popularity over the past few years, and this week Sony publishes another in Concord. You’ll form a crew of Freegunner outlaws, each with their own distinct abilities and playstyles, and take on other players across six different 5v5 PVP modes. After a tepid response to the open beta last month, one has to wonder if Concord will be able to find its place in an already crowded genre — especially with a $40 price tag.
Tiebreak (8/22)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
There’s been an explosion of tennis games over recent years, with the notable return of the TopSpin this spring, but none of them have really blown tennis fans away. Tiebreak looks to change that. It’s been in early access for some time now, gathering and incorporating player feedback while continuously expanding its impressive roster. Gameplay is the true test for any tennis game, and Tiebreak‘s animations and movement leave something to be desired.
Black Myth: Wukong (8/20)
Platforms: PC and PlayStation 5
Four years to the day since it was revealed, Black Myth: Wukong is finally releasing. Initially thought to be a soulslike, it’s actually more forgiving and leans more toward a standard action RPG. As Journey to the West‘s Wukong, You’ll venture across beautiful landscapes fighting mythical monsters while learning new fighting stances and transformations. Early reviews have been positive, but PS5 players should remain patient as only PC codes were provided for reviewers. Xbox players…you’ll have to be even more patient as the Xbox Series X/S version of Black Myth: Wukong is still being optimized without a release date.
