What better way to take your mind off the state of the world than with new video games? Fall promises indie darlings and Triple A hits week after week. This year has a lot to live up to compared to 2023’s best video games, but it’s been strong so far with releases like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Little Kitty, Big City winning over gamers and cat lovers alike.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
The Rise of the Golden Idol (11/12)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S
The Case of the Golden Idol was a sleeper hit back in 2022, and its sequel arrives to much more fanfare. The Rise of the Golden Idol is a standalone follow-up with 20 cases to solve. You’ll use your detective skills to solve all manner of crimes in the 1970s. Like with the first game, DLC cases are planned to release in 2025.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (11/14)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S
1988’s Dragon Quest III has been remade in the HD-2D art style popularized by games like Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy. While the third in the series, Dragon Quest III‘s story is first in chronological order and follows a young hero on a quest to defeat the evil Baramos. You’ll travel across an open, medieval-inspired world engaging in turn-based battles against a variety of monsters.
Lego Horizon Adventures (11/14)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Switch
Guerilla Games’ Horizon series continues to explore new…horizons with Lego Horizon Adventures. It’s essentially a loosely adapted Lego version of the 2017 open world hit Horizon Zero Dawn. You’ll play as Aloy fighting robot dinosaurs in a world overtaken by nature. It offers a single-player experience or co-op adventure via online or couch co-op. Lego Horizon Adventures isn’t developed by TT Games, the usual Lego game developer, so it may feel and play differently than past Lego titles, something previews have already hinted at.
Also worth a spot on your wishlist: Flint: Treasure of Oblivion, Songs of Silence, and Little Big Adventure: Twinsen’s Quest.
