Anybody who’s watched Peacemaker knows that it doesn’t hold back when it comes to skewering DC heroes, or pop culture at large for that matter. Peacemaker insults Batman for not killing his foes, insists that Aquaman does unspeakable things to fish, and goes on a rant about people he thinks are fake that are actually real human beings. Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature #2 continues that trend, and finds some new targets.
The first is Transformers, in the second chapter of “A Time For Fables” by Tim Seeley and Mitch Gerads. Vigilante, in his utterly misguided quest to “save” Peacemaker, somehow believes that the supervillain known as the Controller is transforming cars into his robot minions. It’s a bizarre leap of logic that doesn’t even remotely begin to make sense, but the way Seeley writes it results in plenty of laughs (including an outlandish moment in a library.)
The reason this series continues to be hilarious is Gerads’ artwork. Not only does he manage to capture some hilarious facial expressions, but he also takes readers inside the mind of Adrian Chase…and as you’d expect, it’s utterly chaotic. But that chaos takes the form of chibi-fied versions of people, including hobos, robots, and Adrian himself. That Gerads can balance between this and the hyper violent action is a testament to his talent.

The other half of Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature #2 features Peacemaker and the passengers of the flight he was taking for vacation kidnapped by a mysterious force. Once again, there’s a level of immense vulgarity on display that will shock even the most hardened reader – it’s as if Rex Ogle is testing what he can get away with. The same goes for the art team of Matteo Lolli and John Kaliz, who deliver a raunchy gag involving Peacemaker’s superhero costume and another DC icon.
What really sells the hilarity is Vigilante’s journal, which offers some helpful tips on how to be a superhero. Not only does it feel like something he’d write – especially since Freddie Stroma, who plays Vigilante on Peacemaker, actually wrote it – but it’s surprisingly realistic. Tips about getting a store membership for groceries due to burning calories or getting good at sewing to fix your costume is the kind of advice you’d expect from a non-powered hero. After all, not every superhero can have Batman’s cash or Superman’s invulnerability, right?
Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature #2 continues to be a raunchy delight, pushing the envelope at every turn. It’ll more than tide Peacemaker fans over while they wait for the show’s return, or at the very least make sure they don’t look at the DC Universe the same way again.
