Final Fantasy 7 Remake director makes cryptic comment about Sephiroth

Final Fantasy 7 Remake director, Tetsuya Nomura, makes a vague and intriguing comment in a statement regarding Sephiroth’s physical appearance on a new Magic: The Gathering card. The two major franchises’ upcoming collaboration, Magic: The Gathering — FINAL FANTASY, comes with many character cards featuring the video game’s iconic characters. These cards are illustrated by the game’s development team, including Nomura himself.

Nomura was responsible for Sephiroth’s card. The director revealed. “This time around, I drew Sephiroth on both the front and back sides of the card.” He further elaborated, “I actually drew them so that they would join up if placed one on top of the other, so if you manage to get two of the same card and line them up, you’ll see how the original illustration looked.”

Final Fantasy’s future

However, upon further inspection, Sephiroth’s physical appearance was a little different. Nomura even acknowledged this, but wouldn’t spill the details regarding why he designed the character the way he did. “There is also a reason that the design for Safer Sephiroth is different from the original game, but I unfortunately can’t share more about that.”

His vague statement drove fans into a frenzy, leading to many theories. Players speculated that this may mean that there will be a major change in Sephiroth in future games. While some are disappointed by the secretive nature of Nomura’s comments, others are happy that they may have just gotten a glimpse into the future of Final Fantasy.
