EXCLUSIVE Preview: Acclaimed artist Aron Wiesenfeld launches Kickstarter for ‘Playtime: The Post-It Note Drawings’

The Eisner-nominated artist returns with a hauntingly intimate hardcover collection of never-before-seen miniature ink sketches.

Acclaimed painter and former comics artist Aron Wiesenfeld is taking a bold new step in storytelling with Playtime: The Post-It Note Drawings, a 120-page deluxe hardcover art book now live on Kickstarter. Known for his evocative oil paintings and charcoal works that blend classical technique with modern melancholy, Wiesenfeld’s latest project collects a series of never-before-published ink drawings, each created on humble Post-it notes.

The book will feature approximately 100 of these striking miniature sketches, accompanied by short writings and poems that deepen the dreamlike atmosphere Wiesenfeld is known for. “I think of these small drawings like short stories,” he says. “They are based on inspiration that I found in daily life. My hope is that you will browse through it on a rainy day, and be inspired too.”

Playtime: The Post-It Note Drawings

Wiesenfeld’s fans include Guillermo del Toro, Mike Mignola, Jim Lee, and Kevin Eastman—an impressive list that speaks to the artist’s broad creative impact. Long before his fine art career, Wiesenfeld made waves in comics, earning an Eisner nomination for his work on Deathblow/Wolverine and delivering unforgettable covers for Y: The Last Man.

While his gallery work has been exhibited around the world in over 15 solo shows, Playtime marks a return to the sequential, intimate nature of storytelling—this time filtered through a minimalist medium and deeply personal lens. In keeping with the tone of his larger pieces, the Post-it drawings explore themes of solitude, transformation, and the fragile border between youth and adulthood. His young subjects, often placed on the neglected edges of the modern world, exist in a state of “in-betweenness”—a liminal space that continues to define Wiesenfeld’s artistic voice.

The Kickstarter campaign offers backers a rare opportunity to own a curated look inside the artist’s creative sketchbook. Whether you’re a longtime follower of Wiesenfeld’s fine art or a comics fan drawn to his haunting early work, Playtime promises a quietly powerful experience that lingers long after the final page.
